Patients for Patient Safety US Launches PIVOT DX to Advance Patient-Reported Measures for Diagnostic Safety

WASHINGTON, DC, UNITED STATES, September 17, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Patients for Patient Safety US (PFPS US) today announced PIVOT DX — Patients Involved in Developing Outcomes Together for Diagnostic Excellence, a national initiative that unites patients, patient organizations and key stakeholder groups to advance patient-reported measures of diagnostic safety and experience.

PIVOT DX will launch with a national workshop September 14–16, 2026, in Washington, DC, bringing together patients and care partners with clinicians, diagnostic safety experts, researchers, health system leaders, measurement experts, policymakers, patient safety organizations, and technology organizations.

PIVOT DX builds on Project PIVOT, a national patient-led initiative that asked patients and families what matters most in safe, timely, and equitable healthcare. PIVOT generated more than 40 potential patient-reported experience and outcome survey questions addressing diagnostic safety, communication, dismissal of patient concerns, care biases, and the physical, emotional, and financial consequences of missed, incorrect, and delayed diagnoses.

PIVOT DX will review, prioritize, refine, and validate these patient-defined measures and explore how to move them from patient experience into healthcare measurement and action. The long-term goal is to integrate validated PIVOT DX measures into:

• National patient surveys, complementing existing measures with patient-defined dimensions of diagnostic safety and experience.
• Performance measurement, adding the patient’s perspective to clinical, administrative, and safety-event data.
• Value-based payment and alternative payment models, creating opportunities to align incentives with outcomes that matter to patients.
• Patient-centered research, providing meaningful outcomes for comparative effectiveness and implementation research.
