Joint initiative replaces legacy systems with a unified, mobile-first platform for students, faculty, staff, and visitors
SANTA CLARITA, CA AND BOSTON, MA , MA, UNITED STATES, September 8, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — College of the Canyons (COC) and Modo announce the launch of a new, unified mobile app and desktop portal designed to transform how the campus community accesses information, services, and resources.
Together, COC and Modo have delivered a modern, mobile-first platform that replaces the college’s previous portal and mobile app, creating a more connected, intuitive experience that brings real-time data, campus services, and essential systems into one place.
Serving 40,987 students in Santa Clarita, California, College of the Canyons set out to modernize its digital experience and move beyond a legacy environment that relied heavily on static links and fragmented access points. As Hsiawen Hull, Executive Director of Infrastructure and Information Security at College of the Canyons, explained, the initiative was driven by a need “to move beyond a static, link-based experience and create something that truly supports how our students, faculty, and staff interact with the college every day.”
A Unified, Mobile-First Experience
The new platform provides a single experience across both mobile and desktop, supporting students, faculty, staff, and guests with personalized, role-based access to campus resources.
Key capabilities include:
• Personalized, role-based experiences across all personas
• Real-time data integrations and dynamic content
• Quick access to campus services through streamlined navigation
• Integrated events, directory, and campus resources
• Embedded academic tools, including Canvas
By integrating live data and core systems, the platform enables users to move beyond simply navigating links and instead take action in one connected experience. Hull emphasized that the new approach allows the college to “unify access to critical systems, surface real-time information, and deliver a more intuitive, secure, and connected experience across both mobile and desktop.”
Transforming the Digital Campus Experience
The collaboration reflects a broader shift in higher education toward creating more connected, student-centered digital environments. By working together, COC and Modo transformed a previously static, link-based experience into a dynamic platform that connects directly to backend systems and supports real-time engagement.
Custom development, including a Campus ID XModule, further extends the platform’s capabilities by integrating identification functionality directly into the user experience.
As Andy Umans, General Manager, Higher Education at Modo shared, “Student success starts with access and engagement. By partnering with College of the Canyons to create a unified digital experience, we’re helping make it easier for students to navigate campus, stay informed, and take action in the moments that matter most.”
Built for Ongoing Innovation
The Phase 1 launch establishes a strong foundation for continued collaboration and innovation. Planned enhancements include integration with Colleague SIS, additional custom development, and a Starfish integration to display advisor information.
Together, these efforts will continue to evolve the platform to meet the needs of the COC community while supporting long-term engagement and student success. As Umans added, connected experiences like this help institutions “reduce friction and build a stronger foundation for engagement, persistence, and retention.”
