DALLAS, TX, UNITED STATES, September 8, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — North Texas fans have the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Stars and Texas Rangers. Now, they have a new hometown team to rally behind: the Dallas Mustangs.
For Carlos Machado, the story has been more than 30 years in the making.
In 1995, martial arts icon Chuck Norris brought Machado to Dallas while filming Walker, Texas Ranger. Machado began teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the studio, helping introduce an art that was still virtually unknown in North Texas. From those early days, Machado Jiu-Jitsu spread throughout the region and helped establish Texas as one of the major centers of American combat sports.
Now Carlos and Lindsay Machado are taking the next step.
They helped bring Jiu-Jitsu to Texas. Now they are bringing the league.
The Dallas Mustangs are one of four new franchises joining PGF as the league doubles from four teams to eight for Season 10, creating 40 additional professional roster positions and expanding its national footprint. Four new seven-figure franchise agreements are fueling that expansion.
And Dallas will not be entering alone.
The Houston Wranglers are joining PGF at the same time, giving Texas two franchises and creating the makings of an immediate in-state rivalry.
PGF adds something the sport has historically lacked: teams, a season, standings, rivalries and a championship.
Instead of watching isolated tournaments and individual matches, Dallas fans now have a hometown franchise to follow. Every matchup matters. Every athlete represents the team. Every result feeds into the season.
PGF’s growing audience already extends far beyond the arena. Across its media network, the league has recorded more than 72 million aggregate platform-reported views through competition footage, athlete stories and creator-led distribution.
North Texas athletes will get an opportunity to pursue a place in PGF on October 11, when the Mustangs host a Season 10 qualifier at the Courtyard Marriott in Carrollton, TX. Athletes will compete across five weight classes for an opportunity to enter PGF’s national draft pool.
Competitor registration opens September 8 at 9 a.m. Central at https://www.pgf.world/. Entry is $100 for men ages 18 and older, with divisions at 145, 155, 170, 185 and 205 pounds. Fans can find event information on the same page.
General Manager Roger Perez will lead Mustangs operations as Dallas builds its inaugural roster. Each franchise will preselect one athlete in each weight class before drafting five additional competitors from PGF’s national qualifier pool on January 17, 2027. The regular season runs March 2 through March 30, 2027, followed by the playoffs on April 7.
Dallas and Houston join the St. Louis Outlaws and Carolina Copperheads as PGF’s four new franchises. They will compete against the returning Las Vegas Kings, Philadelphia Phenoms, Alabama Twisters and Colorado Wolverines.
The eight-team field is complete for Season 10. PGF plans to expand to 12 franchises before ultimately capping the league at 16.
Thirty years ago, Dallas became part of the American Jiu-Jitsu story. Now it gets its own team.
