Seasoned public affairs executive joins Commvault to drive trust, resilience, and policy engagement in an increasingly AI-driven world
TINTON FALLS, N.J., Sept. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Commvault (NASDAQ: CVLT), a leader in unified resilience at enterprise scale, today announced the appointment of James Hayes as its first Chief Public Affairs Officer. Hayes will lead Commvault’s government and public affairs strategy across federal, state, and international governments and regulatory bodies. With an extensive background in the public and private sectors, Hayes will work to unite government and business leaders around shared priorities and address public sector challenges through emerging technologies.
Hayes joins Commvault from IonQ and Tenable, where he led federal advocacy, cybersecurity policy, and engagement on emerging technology standards. He also led EMC’s Government Affairs Office in Washington, D.C. prior to the Dell acquisition. In addition to his private-sector experience, Hayes served on the staff of the United States Senate Appropriations Committee, where he developed strong relationships across federal agencies and the broader policymaking community. Hayes has been recognized for his ability to navigate complex defense, civilian, and national security policy issues.
His appointment comes as AI, quantum computing, and evolving cyber threats are reshaping the technology and policy landscape and increasing the need for trusted resilience strategies across the public and private sectors.
“Cyber adversaries are moving at machine speed; governments cannot afford to regulate at an analog pace,” said Danielle Sheer, Chief Trust Officer, Commvault. “Policymakers must be at the forefront, setting clear guardrails for emerging technologies while working closely with industry to anticipate threats, strengthen resilience, and ensure innovation advances security. James brings the experience and credibility to help bridge those worlds at precisely the right moment.”
“The agentic era is transforming business at a rate that is unprecedented in our history. The need for the private and public sectors to usher in this new era responsibly and safely is paramount,” said Hayes. “Commvault is pivotal to helping organizations embrace AI boldly and with confidence, and I am excited to further relationships that will be beneficial to policymakers, customers, and partners.”
