Loomis, CA, United States, August 17, 2026 – FireStorm Building Products, a New Cal Metals company, has announced the addition of an innovative product, the V2™ Vents, to its wildfire defense product ecosystem. This approach expands its home hardening lineup with its most technically advanced vent system to date. V2 Vents complement existing products, such as EmberVent and EmberMesh, forming part of FireStorm’s integrated solutions to ember and flame intrusion prevention.
Research consistently shows that wind-driven embers cause up to 90% of home losses in wildfires, traveling ahead of fire fronts under wind pressure and probing every opening they encounter. This finding makes vents the most overlooked vulnerability in wildfire home hardening, as, being structurally open by design, they become a liability during a wildfire.
Offering only a single layer of mesh screening with no resistance to flame contact or radiant heat, standard vents such as attic vents, soffit vents, foundation vents, and crawlspace openings are designed for essential ventilation, not wildfire conditions. As these vents are not permitted in WUI construction under California’s Chapter 5 (formerly Chapter 7A) requirements, V2 Vents have been engineered specifically to address this gap.

“V2 Vents expand the proven home-hardening lineup we can offer homeowners in wildfire-prone zones. While EmberMesh and EmberVent address ember intrusion across gaps and standard vent openings, V2 Vents take that protection further with a flame-sealing layer for applications where the threat escalates beyond embers to direct heat and flame contact. Together, they give homeowners a complete platform instead of isolated upgrades,” said Nate Oliver, Director of Marketing & Technology at FireStorm Building Products.
FireStorm Building Products operates a distribution-based sales model out of 3495 Swetzer Rd Ste 500, Loomis, CA 95650, United States, making V2 Vents available to builders, contractors, and property owners nationwide.

V2 Vents meet California Fire Hazard Severity Zone (FHSZ) classifications and WUI ventilation requirements for new construction, substantial remodels, and retrofit applications. It is tested to ASTM E2886/E2886M/E2912 standards and satisfies both the performance-based compliance path under California’s Chapter 5 and the IBHS Wildfire Prepared Home designation requirements.
The product operates on a two-stage active defense mechanism that distinguishes it from passive, mesh-only alternatives, transitioning from passive airflow filtration to active heat suppression to offer a comprehensive multi-tier ecosystem designed to block wind-driven embers and extreme heat from entering vulnerable openings in buildings. The result is a vent that breathes normally under ordinary conditions and becomes a firewall when needed.
The first stage provides an “always-on” level of ember protection. A fine stainless steel mesh screen blocks ember entry under normal conditions while maintaining full airflow through the vent. This layer requires no activation and functions continuously for the life of the vent.
The second stage is an active thermal seal, an aluminum honeycomb core coated with a specialized intumescent material, positioned behind the outer screen. When exposed to ambient radiant heat between 450°F and 500°F, the intumescent compound expands rapidly, closing the honeycomb structure to form a solid physical firewall at the ventilation boundary.
V2 Vents are also engineered for high net free vent area (NFVA), delivering more airflow per vent than standard alternatives. In practice, this means fewer vents are required to properly ventilate a home, which reduces both material and labor costs in new construction and retrofit projects.
The FireStorm product line comprises eight distinct structural configurations to protect and address vulnerable points throughout a structure, from continuous soffit and ridge options, dormer vents, eave retrofits, louvered gable units, and balcony inspection vents to foundation assemblies compatible with stucco, fiber cement, and wood-frame siding.
With the unveiling of V2 Vents, FireStorm Building Products now expands its line of integrated protection against ember intrusion and flame penetration, enhancing its reputation as a leader in advanced structural defense solutions for wildland-urban interface (WUI) environments.
